Harrow Lane Bindery

A small workshop binding and repairing books by hand. Family bibles, first editions, thesis copies, journals made to measure — each one sewn, pressed and finished at the bench.

The work

We use traditional materials: linen thread, wheat-starch paste, calf and goatskin, cloth and marbled papers made in small batches. Most repairs are reversible, and we keep original boards, endpapers and inscriptions wherever the book allows it.

Turnaround is usually three to six weeks. Larger restoration projects are quoted after we have seen the book in person.
